1875 Chickering Grand Piano
If seeing is believing, scroll down and you will understand the charm and magic of this magnificent piano.
Serial #47165, built in 1875, 8'4" in length, it features the first iteration of the Brown action. This is an historical instrument that can be played daily or opened up for just those special occasions.
I have been the piano technician responsible for this instrument since 2010. I'm representing the seller in this transaction, necessary due to downsizing. It has been in the seller's home for the last 35 years.
Prior to the seller purchasing the piano, the following work was performed: case and harp refinished and the piano restrung, original key tops had also been replaced as was the hammer and shank for note #88. Otherwise, it's in original condition.
I have replaced the front rail key bushings and regulated the action. It's tuned annually and is very stable. It plays with a light touch and is not as loud as a modern concert grand (the carpeted floor it rests on notwithstanding). The tone, however, is clear, warm and expressive.
I'm delighted to say this unique instrument has found a new home: it's been donated to the Period Piano Center.
