1970 Steinway Model B - 6'10 1/2"
This wonderful, artist-level instrument, built in 1970, was recently rebuilt in our shop. It has a new, factory-quality, hand-rubbed satin black lacquer finish. We polished its brass hardware.
Before restringing, we decide whether to keep or replace the soundboard by making both musical and technical judgments. If the original produces a lively tone, has retained its crown and downbearing, and shows no evidence of deterioration, we will usually keep it, as we did in this case. We installed a new tuning pin block (5-layer quarter-sawn Canadian rock maple), refinished the soundboard, refinished and re-lettered the cast-iron string plate, and replaced the agraffes (string terminations). We restrung with Röslau treble wire and custom hand-wound bass strings by GC of Toronto.
Choice of action parts is important, as Steinway has used several different leverages in its history. On this piano, the most appropriate parts came from Abel in Germany. We replaced hammers, hammer shanks, and repetitions, then adjusted and rebalanced the keyboard for best performance. We also upgraded the damper system by fitting a new damper action with improved design, for better leverage and reduced wear.
Offered at $49,000. Trade-ins considered.
Please call for an appointment to see, hear and play a Steinway ready to take you to the next level.
